Subject: Asbestos
The two samples that you submitted from Mt. Clemens Vinyl Plant were analysed for asbestos content in the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory. The test method was a qualitative procedure that indicates the definite absence of asbestos at concentrations greater than 1% or the possible presenoe of asbestos greater than 1%. Teste on both samples were positive for the presenoe of asbestos. Confirmation testB by 1-ray diffraction analysis would have to be done at a commercial industrial hygiene laboratory.
Both BampleB were tested for their loss of ignition at 900C. The black sample lost 33*5% ignition and the gray sample lost 25.2% on ignition.
, Test results indicate asbestos concentrations approximating 70% in both samples. Presence of fibrous material in both samples suggests a high concentration of asbestos, however, the fibers appear to be tightly bound and release of dust from these materials would be unlikely if wet methods of dust suppression are UBed during any cutting and scoring of the tiles.
