My own belief was that we were to do somewhat more than that and to discuss somewhat in more detail the oiedical aspects of "the problem, with particular enphasls on the facts that lead one to conclude that, at this time, the Standard for asbestosis might be recommended. Doctor Kleinfeld gave me the impression that he thought wt were to do something somewhere in-between these views. In any event, all three of us decided that we could agree on the features that would go into a definition of asbestosis, and you will find enclosed a single sheet to that effect. Prior to the meeting of the three of us, I had prepared a rather brief set of comments which 1 thought might be the starting point for our discussion. I indicated to both Doctor Selikoff and Kleinfeld that I planned to give you this as my own personal view and contribution and not as coming from the three of us. I would like further to say that I don't believe you are to be bound in any way by the definition of asbestosis as we have envisioned it, nor by the comments that I am sending you on an individual basis.
