MR-1420 ANALYSIS OF FISH FOE BRACE METALS
To help evaluate the extent of pollution, in the Delaware River and its effect on river life in the vicinity of Chambers Works, samples of fish were obtained from Ichthyological Associates of Middletown, Del. for trace metals analysis by Haskell Laboratory. The fish were caught by net or trawl from three locations: the vicinity of Racoon Creek; the vicinity of Church's Landing; the vicinity of Hope Creek.
The Initial catch of fish was made in March 1971. Several attempts yielded only a small number of fish, which included primarily white perch, blueback herring and silvery minnows. The purpose of this analysis -- for mercury, lead, copper, chromium and zinc -- was a comparison of our results with those of a previous study done by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
The project will be continued with a catch of fish each month for five months beginning June 1971.
