ATIONAL LEAD COMPANY LETTER December 2$, 1955 APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED IN PAINT, PIGMENT, CHEMICAL SALES' The Company has announced the following appointments In paint, pigment and chemical sales, effective December 1, 1955: John A. Southworth has been named manager of the paint division of the Atlantic Branch and George Diehl,man manager of the pigments and chemical divi sion of the branch. Ralph M. Bennett becomes manager of the Cleveland Branch paint division, and William W. Howard manager of the pigments and chemicals division of the Cleveland and Cincinnati branches. Edwin C. Hill becomes sales manager, pigments and chemicals division of the Atlanta Branch, to be effective January 1, 195&. Mr. Southworth Joined the Company in 1952 as trade sales supervisor of National Lead Company of Massachusetts, becoming assistant trade sales mana ger of the Company in 1953 * He was formerly with the Glidden Company, the Sherwin-Williams Company and the Prank Bcwnes Company. Mr. Diehlman has been manager of raw materials sales for the Atlantic Branch since June of last year. He began his Company career in 1915 at the Brooklyn research laboratories' metal protective coating department, and was named sales promotion manager for protective coatings in 19^9 Mr. Bennett begem his career in the paint field with the Sherwin-Williams Company in 1918. He became assistant manager of their industrial, railway and marine sales department, and in 1932 was placed in charge of the maintenance sales department. Four years later he moved to the Billings-Chapin Company as general sales manager and in 1937 he became president and treasurer. In 1940 he returned to Sherwin-Williams, in charge of their New England division. He came to National Lead in 1949 as assistant to the manager of trade sales and in 1951 became manager of the Atlantic Branch pigment division. Mr. Howard, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Joined the Company in 1950 as a Cincinnati Branch salesman. He was appointed senior technical representative, pigments, oxides and chemicals for the branch in 1951 and mana ger, pigments and oils division, in June of last year. Edwin C. Hill becomes sales manager, pigments and chemicals division of the Atlanta Branch. Mr. Hill was graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1949 with an industrial engineering degree and Joined the Atlanta Branch that year as a salesman. In 1953 Mr. Hill was appointed assistant sales mana ger, dry pigments, for the branch. 0000-ISOLI-000024796 ORLING IS NEW PRESIDENT OF BAKER CASTOR OIL COMPANY Eric G. Orling has been elected president of Baker Castor Oil Company, a subsidiary of National Lead Company; to be effective January 1, 1956. He succeeds I. M. Colbeth, who will retire. Mr. Orling received his B. S. degree in chemistry from Ohio University in 1935* and was first employed by the Company in 1938 as Cleveland Branch salesman. Four years later he became assistant branch manager. He was transferred to the Pacific Coast Branch sales department. In 1946, following war service with the U. S. Maritime Commission, he was appointed manager of export sales for the Pacific 2 Coast Branch and sales manager of its Central Division. Mr. Orling became mana ger of the Cleveland Branch, pigment division in 1950, which position he has wif? until the present appointment. He is a menfeer of the American Chemical Society. Mr. Colbeth received his B. S. degree in chemistry from City College of New York. He becane superintendent of oil refining for Proctor and Ganfcle Conpany before coming to Baker Castor Oil Company in 1920. Mr. Colbeth was appointed chief chemist in 1929 and chemical director in 1931- He was elected vice presi dent of Baker in 1948 and has been president since 1949* Mr. Colbeth is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists and a member of the American Chemical Society. b b e s s l e r n a me d d o e h l e r -j a h v is in d u s t r ia l r e l a t io n s , ma n a g e r Robert Bressler has been appointed manager of industrial relations for the Doehler-Jarvis Division. Mr. Bressler was first employed by the Company in 193& at Doehler-Jarvis' Pottstown, Pennsylvania, plant as a drill press operator. From 1941 to 1945 he attended the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a B. S. degree in economics. Mr. Bressler returned to Doehler-Jarvis in 1949 as a foreman in the Chicago plant, becoming manager of industrial relations for the plant in 1950. In 1953 he was transferred to Toledo as assistant division manager of labor relations, and in the following year he became manager of labor relations for the division. He held this position until the present appointment. SULLIVAN, CROFT, GRUBER IN NEW MAGNUS POSITIONS B. H. Sullivan, Jr., has been appointed assistant vice president of the Magnus Metal Corporation, subsidiary of the Company, effective as of December 1. In his new capacity he will assist Magnus vice president M. J. Turner in the handling of all western sales of Magnus products. Mr. Sullivan joined Magnus Metal in June, 1952, as a member of the Chicago sales staff. Also at Magnus, J. J. Croft has been appointed St. Louis district sales manager of the corporation, and L. J. Gruber has been transferred from Cincinnati to Chicago in the Sales department. O'BRIEN APPOINTED COMPTROLLER OF TITANIUM ALLOY MANUFACTURING DIVISION William L. O'Brien has been named comptroller of the Titanium Alloy Manufac turing Division. Mr. O'Brien came with the division in 1952 as a senior accoun tant, was made office manager in 1953, and assistant comptroller on April 1, 1955* He was graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1941, with a B. S. in economics. COHAN IS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, RJBLIC RELATIONS AND ADVERTISING FOR TM2A Alvin S. Cohan has been appointed assistant director of public relations and advertising, for Titanium Metals Corporation of America. Mr. Cohan was for merly manager of jwblicatlons of the American Institute of Mining and Metal lurgical Engineers, and editor of Journal of Metals.
