Washington, DC 20037 Dear Dr. Shah: The Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology (CUT) with our partner, Research Triangle Institute (RTI), is pleased to provide one original and one bound copy of a technical and cost proposal in response to the Chemical Manufacturer Asssociaton's (CMA) request addressed on November 15,1995 to Dr. Rochelle Tyl at the Research Triangle Institute. Our bid is for a Vinyl Chloride Combined Inhalation Two-Generation Reproduction and Developmental Toxicity Study in CD Rats. Our study proposals related to the developmental toxicity of vinyl chloride in rats and reproductive toxicity of vinyl chloride in rats represent a joint partnership with our colleagues at the Research Triangle Institute (RTI). RTI will serve as the CUT Subcontractor for these two studies. These two research proposals build upon the respective strengths of both organizations. We are confident that high quality data sets will emerge from the partnership between CUT and RTI, For the submitted research proposals CUT should be considered to be the Contractor. CUT has carefully considered the costs associated with the conduct of these studies. The lump sum, fixed price for the project is $520,824. In closing, let me note that my colleagues at both CUT and RTI are very enthusiastic about the opportunity to carry out this important research for CMA. The proposed vinyl chloride work is closely related to CIITs ongoing research in inhalation developmental and reproductive toxicology. Dr. Frank Welsch, the proposed study director, has extensive experience in developmental toxicology. Dr. Rochelle Tyl, the co-study director who is now at RTI, has had extensive experience conducting inhalation studies concerned with developmental/reproduction/fertility effects. Dr. Brian Wong, who will be responsible for overseeing the inhalation exposures, is an experienced inhalation toxicologist.
