S. Congress relating to automotive air pollution. This, as I am sure you remember, is the report required under the provisions of the Clean Air Act which was passed by Congress in December 1963. Of particular importance to us I believe is the statement on page 14 rela tive to Lead--Effects on Human. This statement, I am sure, was based largely on the findings of the Three-City Survey since John Ludwig is a member of the Committee responsible for the preparation of the report. I am sure you have heard of the miserable showing made by Dr. Clair Patterson at the Los Angeles Committee meeting last week. I thought you would enjoy reading Don Fowler's comments on what transpired and they are as follows: "The Scientific Advisory Committee met last night and Patterson addressed them on the subject of lead. Our informant tells us that Patterson created an absolutely appalling affect. One of the Committee members asked where did you get this 'nut. 1 For example, he took ten minutes explaining the periodic table of the elements to the Committee, who are essentially all University Professors. All of his data was presented merely as estimates and consequently did not have much affect. Griswold sat through the meet ing obviously bored and had no comments." 0004884 With best regards.
