duction and reduced costs by speeding die vulcani zation process. For example, al one time it required several hours to properly vulcanize a passenger car tiro: now il takes less than one hour.

process for making tetraethyl lead some 60 years ago, is not the man to let retirement interfere with his normal working schedule.
He has proved this almost daily since June, 1946, when he stepped down after 22 years as a chemistry teacher and director of chemical research at. Brown University in Providence, Rhode: Island.

NEW BUILDINGS PLANNED. Du Pont will build a $2,700,000 center for the study of animal nutrition and disease near Newark, Delaware, and has tentative plans for constructing a modern office building near the same town.
The laboratory, to be built on a 291-acre farm, will be concerned with the application of new synthetic chemicals to the control of parasites and insects and of bacterial and virus diseases in animals.
TO EXPAND II/)2 PRODUCTION. Du Pont plans to build a plant near Memphis for the manufacture of hydrogen peroxide, a chemical used widely in the tex tile, paper and rubber industries. Many natural and man-made fibers are bleached with hydrogen peroxide, and it has been used increasingly as a bleach for paper pulps. The chemical will be produced by an improved process, developed by Company scientists after six years of research. Production, scheduled to be gin some time next year, will supplement current output at plants in Niagara Falls and Dresden, New York.
IMPROVED DDT. Du Pont has developed a new DDT formulation for crop spraying called "Deenate" 75-W DDT insecticide. It contains 75 per cent techni cal DDT and supplants the 50 per cent DDT wettable powder. Field tests show that the new product, leaves a higher deposit of DDT on sprayed surfaces and has the same suspensible and wettable qualities as the older insecticide. It comes in one- to seven-pound packages and in 50-pound bags.
SHINES BETWEEN TINES. This spongy polishing block made of neoprene, Du Pout's chemical rubber, is designed to simplify the chore of cleaning tarnished silverware. It has grooves for getting at stubborn stains on fork tines, a fiat surface for knife blades, rounded sections for spoons, and can be used for cleaning trays, vases and other hollow ware.
