Hartman LWH-1123-89 Subject: Engineering & Maintenance Department Monthly Report for Month of December, 1988 The attached reports from the Project Engineering Department Group Leader and the Maintenance Supervisor summarize the activities in their respective areas. Highlights for the month of December were as follows: An innovation lunch was held for the Engineering and Maintenance Department hosted by Mike Bodman in recognition of the many ideas that have been submitted by the department. A schedule of year-end projects was issued showing the projects that were to be completed by the end of 1988. A weekly update was made of the schedule. The IBAP to 4HAP conversion was completed ahead of schedule. Sump cleaning and inspection activities on the remaining sumps was done in December during a planned lab-wide shutdown and switchover. The Building Betterment Program construction continued in December with the office construction work being done at night. Removal of asbestos containing floor tile was tried and did not work. The decision was made to encapsulate the floor tile by covering it with the new floor covering. Roof work is underway on the lab area. The office roof work was completed in December. The Ibuprofen Pilot Plant work continued in December with the startup of the Carbonylation Unit and the commissioning of the Purification Unit completed for a late December startup. The IBUP commissioning effort has been plagued with the problem of trying to figure out who really is in charge with conflicting claims coming from Operations and the pilot plant people which results in an inefficient operation. Commissioning was begun on the TFE Unit and at months end was ready for startup. Resolving the continuing conflict in the Instrument Shop. Considerable time and effort has been expended in working with the I.R. Department in dealing with the above problems. Who's in charge in the Ibuprofen Unit. Working with L. 0. Wheeler and T. M. Kenesson to resolve. Who's really in charge in the TFE Unit? Again, conflicting claims as to who is supposed to do what?
