Tripp New Jersey Bell Telephone Company Room 502 540 Broad Street Newark, New Jersey 07101 Dear Walt: The six air filter samples and two bulk samples collected at 75 West Passaic Street,Rochelle Park have been analyzed for asbestos. Both of the bulk samples ("removed from ceiling" and "floor sweepings") were found to contain ar.osite asbestos by polarized light microscopy and dispersion staining. The presence of amosite was confirmed by x-ray diffraction. The six air filters were analyzed by counting all fibers greater than 5 pm long seen by phase contrast optical microscopy at 400 x. These are the methods recommended by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The results were: Sample -1-5-16-79 -2-5-16-79 -5-5-16-79 -4-5-16-79 -5-5-16-79 -6-5-16-79 Volume Air (L) 200 200 200 30 200 200 Fibers Counted* 5 6 2 1 2 4 Fibers/cm0 .02 .02 .01 .03 .01 .02 2 190 microscope field (.011 mm /field) were counted.
