Meade will arrange to cooperate with you and help you in any possible way to prepare reports of projects which have been completed. As to incomplete projects which are being carried out under agreements and contracts with industry and other agen cies, it ia clearly the responsibility of our organisation to arrange far their completion unless the Grantors and supportora wish to make same other arrangement. We have already had indications of the desire of some of them to have their projects continued and you could'be help ful during this transition. I am disturbed in learning that!you `have removed sane records and other material from the Laboratory without the prior knowledge of, or arrangement with Or. Meade. This mas a mistake on your part and might easily place you in an unfavorable light. The Board of Trustees will be concerned because of its responsibility for the preservation of the records and other material. I am sure an amicable arrangement could be made through Or. Meads which would protect you and avoid any SgtUeation of improper removal of records. I want to urge you in your own interest to make such an arrangement, so that we may know precisely what is being done. I have asked Or. Lansa to go to tbs Laboratory and study the status of tbs work there, giving us an Independent appraisal which will certainly be of help In future planning. Or. lansa must have access to all records of work which has been done and ia being done in the Saranac Laboratory. I can assure you that this will be done in an ftabiaddji and objective way and you need not hove any misgivings about it. He will be there during the week of August 2. There has been considerable misunderstanding generally about our intentions to continue the work of the Saranac Laboratory, and this seems to go back for at least five rears.
