Exhibit always attract favorable attention
ATTLANTIC CITY, New Jersey, is perhaps the nation's most famous ycar-rcu health and pleasure resort. Its location, climate, its sport and recreational facilities attract people from every quarter of the globe.. With a permanent population of con siderably less than 75,000, it is claimed that 2.0,000,000 people visit this increasingly popular resort each year.
As a convention city, too, it ranks high. So many national organizations hold their annual meetings there each year that now a project is under way to build a con vention hall that will be the largest one in the world.
Every town has its Main Street, Atlantic City has a most unique one--the Boardwalk, which extends eight miles along the ocean front and Is sixty feet wide in its central section. On the land side are million dollar hotels, oriental bazaars, inviting toy stores, theaters, exhibits, dainty tea rooms, beauty parlors, fashionable shops and stores and business places of all kinds, close packed for many blocks. On the side toward the sea six great ocean piers house a vast array of popular attractions.
Probably ninety per cent of all the people who visit Atlantic Ci ty spend most of their time on the Boardwalk-- the one great recreation center. They bask in the sunshine, they mingle with the crowds, they Ml their lungs with the balmy air from the ocean, and in an environment of life and light and color they are renewed both in body and mind. Up and down the 'Walk they stroll, care-free and eager to exa mine and study whatever may attract their attend011. And so it is that advertisers, catering to Board walk crowds, really reach the nation at large, or a cross section of it, under especially favorable circumstances.
That explains why Heinz, Atlantic City's first perma nent exhibitor, built a great ocean pier as a show place for his famous "57 varieties;'* why the du Pont Company next chose a Boardwalk location to exhibit its family of products, and why the Crane Company, notably, and a dozen or more other national advertisers since then have established exhibits of various kinds.

The Dn Pont Products Exhibit is just ten years old this month. It was first opened to the public lit 1105 Board walk on April 16, 1916- Three years later it was removed to more spacious quarters at 11x1-13 Boardwalk, the present location.
It is known that at least 161,000 people entered the exhibit last year. The total is conservative, for during rash periods it was impracticable to make a per capita count. And it would be idle to speculate on the number of passers-by who paused to examine the attractive window displays for which the Du Pont Products Exhibit is noted.

Visitors entering the exhibit are likely to misinterpret its character, for at lirst glance it doesn't look like an exhibit at all. The merchandise displays in showcases and on shelves.. the appointments ot the room generally --con vcv the impression of a high-class filth A venae shop. C.loser inspection, however, dispels this illusion, for beside each Jisplav h a neatly lettered card identify ing the merchandise hv the maker's name and address and showing the name al the du Pone product used m its manufacture.
What intrigues visiters most is probably the great mini her and variety of articles shown. Man}- of them express amazement that so main articles of common use in i heir homes are produced, with da Pont materials they never heard of before. The exhibit visualizes the part industrial chemistry plays m die maiiufacturuig activities of the nation. It promotes a better understanding of the character and utility ol du Pont products. lr presents an advertising advantage to the manufacturers who show merchandise there, and ikewisc builds prestige for the du Pont Company. And it educates the public.
But the exhibit accomplishes more than that, for many
industrial and commercial leaders come to Atlantic City
from all parts of the coumrv. Rarely ever do they leave
the resort without vistdug this interesting exhibit. Many
a manufacturer scrolls in "just to look around" and walks
out briskly with a brand new idea of adapting some du
Pone product to his own use. To cite an instance: A
manufacturer strolled in the exhibit one day and as a
result of that visit he fits since made use of about 500,000
yards of Fabrikoid. His products arc well known from
coast 0 coast.

The shot was successful in every wav. No damage was done to the crushing plant or any other equipment, and the contractor A"as very well pleased.

Some of these accidents were probably caused by friction between a gritty tamping stick and the bore hole with the dynamite smeared in between. Several were caused by spaiks from a steam shovel or locomotive dropping into the bore hole. Two or three were probably caused hv men smoking while loading and either dropping a lighted cigarette or
