Plant Safety Program It was agreed that the Board Is too large a group of people to reach complete agreement and allow adequate discussion time on the Plant Safety Program. Therefore, Mr. Chamberlin appointed a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs. Keating, Chairman; Romeril; and Gilmore to complete this project and report back to the Board. 2. Procedure Bulletins The four procedure bulletins are still receiving quite a few comments, so another revision will be required. Final comments on these bulletins should be submitted to Mr. Gilmore by February 20. 3. Plant Nitrogen System Mr. Chamberlin requested that each superintendent submit to him, in writing, the status of the nitrogen Installations in their respective areas. Plant Traffic A firm bid has been received for $1200 to provide a 36" sidewalk on the north side of the street on the two blocks west of department 31* and traffic lines painted on the streets between the main gate and the main office building. Mr. Orissom will check to see If a 36" sidewalk will cover* the area between the curb and the piperack stanchion. 5. Bicycles Mr. Orissom passed around a news clipping concerning fiber glass bicycles now being manufactured. He will Investigate the possible use of this type of bicycle in this plant. NEW BUSINESS 1. Color Code - Water The existing color code does not adequately differentiate between potable water and other Industrial water supplies. Mr; Chamberlin appointed a subcommittee of Messrs. Browning, Chairman; Halle; and Orissom to study this problem and re commend action to the Board. 2. Testing Pressure Type Bombs Mr; Fox reported that the hydrostatic testing procedure for pressure type bombs IS costing considerable money -- he estimated between seven and ten thousand dollars a year In Research alone. This cost Is primarily attributed to the replacement of fittings necessitated by the procedure now In use. Mr. Rex McDonnell of Tech Service will work with Mr. Fox on this problem. 3. Hourly Safety Committee Items A through N on the agenda will be handled by the Safety Director with local supervision. Item 0, concerning the stenciling of rain suits, boots, etc. was referred back to the safety department to determine what procedure was originally intended. Those employees who now have untagged equipment may get these stenciled by requesting It to their supervision. sc 16907 LAM024177 PMSB Page 3 Item P, having to do with removal of webbing from hard hats, will be handled by local aupervlalon. A bulletin will be prepared by Mr. Chamberlin warning that enforcement will be forthcoming; after It, supervision will make necessary in spections for enforcement. 4. Visiting Nurse The dispensary will contact supervision of the absent em ployees prior to the visitations, primarily to determine If the employees are still absent, and that supervision be made aware that a visit will take place. Supervision is asked to emphasize the need of the absent employees to re port through the dispensary prior to returning to work.
