Attached is Analytical Method 13,086 which outlines the Gas Liquid Chromatographic procedure for determination of assay of chlorophenols.
J. D. Wilson furnished this statement on "dioxin" content. A retro spective analysis of 15 lots of 2,4-Dichlorophenol produced between May and November 1980 showed no detectable amount of tetrachlorodibenzodioxin in any of the samples. The analytical method used was capable of detecting 1 ng of 2,3,7 8-Tetrac'nlorodibenzodioxin per g of 2,4-Dichlorophenol (1 ppb, or 0.001 ppm). The method included extraction with petroleum ether of a solution of DCP in 1 N KOH, followed by fractionation on a basic alumina column and analysis by GC/MS. Recoveries of spiked 2,3,7,8-TCDD were in the range of 78-103Z in this series of experiments.
