CRAVE did recently review the vinyl chloride file with the intent of rectifying the absence of vinyl chloride from IRIS (Integrated Risk Information System). At this time we are summarizing the assessments currently available, so we have not undertaken a full reassessment. (Precisely speaking, CRAVE itself does not assess chemicals; rather, CRAVE verifies the work of the Agency's assessment offices. This distinction can be useful when bringing information to the Agency's attention--information is most timely when sent to scientists in a office doing an assessment, instead of to CRAVE after the assessment has been completed.) The assessment office responsible for vinyl chloride is the Office of Health and Environmental Assessment's Human Health Assessment Group, of which I am a member. The information you enclosed on your Panel's epidemiologic study of vinyl chloride workers helps ensure that our knowledge stays current. I have forwarded this information to our group's epidemiologist who has participated in past assessments of vinyl chloride.
