Take a look at some industry highlights from just the past few weeks: "Spurred partly by the shale boom, the median pay for energy workers last year was $123,000... That topped all sectors, including utilities, tech and health care." Bloomberg, July 5 "In 2017, US had largest decline in CO2 emissions in the world for 9th time this century. " American Enterprise Institute, July 12 "US crude oil production hit record level in June." The Hill, July 19 The American energy renaissance is still going strong and delivering major benefits, from well-paying jobs and energy security to clean natural gas that has helped drive U.S. carbon emission to 25-year lows. As the world's leading producer and refiner of natural gas and oil, it can be easy to take U.S. energy security for granted. That's why it's so important we get energy policy right. Now is the time to expand safe exploration, build infrastructure and put in place science-based, free market policies to ensure we'll have the resources we need to remain a global energy superpower. I've spent enough time working on Capitol Hill to know a bipartisan issue when I see one, and energy is the ultimate bipartisan issue. Not just because 80 percent of U.S. voters - including strong majorities of Democrats, Republicans and Independents -- support increased domestic natural gas and oil production. It's a bipartisan issue because safe, reliable energy keeps America going. That fact should be the foundation of our national energy conversation, and I look forward to advocating for policies that will ensure American families and businesses have the reliable, affordable, energy they need.
