Concern with asbestoshealth issues has been with exposure to fibers in the workplace, general environment, both air and water, and with consumer products which might, in normal use, result in the "freeing" of respirable asbestos fibers. Several states and some municipalities have issued regulations with regard to asbestos exposure. Ready reference to asbestos regulations now in being in the United States is pro vided by this handbook. Following a tab for each federal agency which has issued regulations on asbestos will be found a summary of the regulations, a reprint of the regulations from the Federal Register, and a brief history of the agency and its respon sibilities. A digest of pertinent state regulations and current regulatory initiatives is also provided. A miscellaneous tab has been included for filing related material. The pro posed revision to the OSHA standard published October 9, 1975, appears under the miscellaneous tab. This publication supersedes AIA/NA handbook, ASBESTOS, Federal Regulations, dated September 5, 1975. Single copies are made available to members of the Associa tion without charge. Copies for non-members and additional copies for members may be obtained from AIA/NA at cost of $16.50 each. Mailing charges will be added out side the United States. Such additional regulations or changes as may occur to affect this reference work will be forwarded to holders without charge.
