Part of the Occupational Health Sc Safety Committee met with a p^.'t e Duct Committee. The transactions of th*w -- ecti;.^ as reported ty _r. . Barnhart are attached.
Following this combined meeting, there was a brief meeting of the loci* pationel Health & Safety Committee. Tne following persons were present.
L. B. Grant, K.D. C. L. Sheckler F. H. Edwards H. Mesler J. Vyverberg

Mr. Sheckler indicated that the work of the Education Subcommittee was progressing satisfactorily. The asbestos pamphlet had teen prepared and circulated for comments and/or approval. The fiber glass pamphlet will te availsble for full committee review early in April. Dr. Grant pointed cut that it was his understanding that both these pamphlets and the Educations Program for the coming year were to be reviewed at a meeting of the full committee. This was not done with the asbestos pamphlet. Dr. Grant's ex perience was that the time limitation set for review by the subcommittee had passed before he had had a chance to review the pamphlet. He felt this was unfortunate inasmuch as he would have liked to have seer, eithef a reference to pre-employment and periodic medical examinations of the workers or a specific limitation clearly indicating that the scope of the pamphlet did not include medical control procedures. As the pamphlet is at the present time, it will invite justified criticism by the medical profession. Mr. Sheckler is of the opinion that comments with reference to medical ex aminations were inappropriate to include in the pamphlet. This reflects a basic disagreement within the committee which must be resolved at a later meeting of the full committee. Although it was discussed, no action was decided upon to resolve this basic difference of opinion. The fiber giu-s pamphlet draft prepared by tb- Ed-- -*'-- o,;v ;--^ttce will be icviowed at a committee meeting in New York on April 16, 1968.
Mr. J. M. Barnhart wished to be advised on how he should handle requests coming to him for assistance in health related problems. The following general philosophy was agreed upon: He should frst d-.eut s>-ol1 ,,t-i-ests to the manufacturer of the product in question. However, if no ns=nufuct-rer car. be identified or if the manufacturer of the product specifically re quested Nil`A support, he should direct the request to Dr. Crjr.t, Ihsirs.an cl tne Occupational health L Safety Committee, for appropriate action.
