WOODS, SOURCE CONTROL, ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATIONS TO: ATTACHED DISTRIBUTION SUBJECT: ASBESTOS DISPOSAL We have been informed by Chemical Waste Management that asbestos in loose bags will not be accepted into their landfill after the bin we are now using is emptied. In the future, asbestos must be in closed plastic bags inside fiber or steel drums. You will be responsible for procure ment of the drums. The asbestos should be wetted, according to our safety orders, and placed into drums lined with heavy-duty plastic bags. When full, seal the plastic bag and seal the drum for shipment. Each drum must be stenciled on the top and on the side with the CODE NUMBER A-07069 and must have affixed to the outside the following: 1. Hazardous Waste Label (the date must be entered) 2. Waste Asbestos Label 3. Asbestos Caution Label (see Safety Order S-35 or S-I25) If fiber drums are used they must be protected from the weather. Have the drums delivered to the PDU building and we will arrange shipment as truck loads accumulate. It is your responsiblity to have the drums ready to ship. Drums not properly closed and labeled will be returned to the job-site.
