Summary: Measurable exposures continue to occur on the west brake line pad unloauing and stacking operation, Depart ment 9047. Affected employees must be provided annual physical exams. All exposures are below the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). Discussion: On Wednesday, September 23, 1901, and on Tuesday, October 13, 1981,employee exposure to airborne asbestos fibers in the Lrake assembly operation, Department 9847 was investigated by the writer on 9/23/81 and L. Redmond on 10/13/01. E. A. Kolacki, Labor Relations and Safety and P. Runion, Union Member of the Local health and Safety Committee were aware of the investigation. The investiga tion was in compliance with the OShA General Industry ' Standard, 29CFR1010.1001 (f)(2ii). -- .. / 2 Results of the survey indicate that asbestos exposure in Department 9847 is well within the OSllA PEL. Exposure on the east brake line is less than tne detectable limit of the procedure (0.1 fiber/cc). Although most of tue west brake line lias asLestos exposure below the detectable limit, the brake pad unloading and stacking operation continues to have a measurable exposure to asbestos. Consequently F. Hoffbauer S#278-40-8106 and W. Williams, S5#280-34-9232; and any other worker v/no performs or nas performed that operation, must receive annual physical exams, in accordance with the General Industry Standard 29C1'R191Q.1001 (j).
