Attached are required procedures for_reirQirg woven asbestos tape insulation from railroad equrpmmt as "follows:
1) Sale Operating Procedure For Running Repair Of Locomotive Lines And Office Car Lines Covered With Asbestos Tape.
2) Safe Operating Procedure For Heavy Wreck Repair Of Locomtive Lines And Office Car Lines Covered With Asbestos Tape.
3) Safe Operating Procedure For Heavy Repair Of Locomotive Lines And Office Car Lines Covered With Asbestos Tape.
All employees who are involved in the removal of asbestos woven tape are required to have pulmonary function test, complete a respiratory ques tionnaire, and have a chest X-ray. These tests can be done by the Occupa tional Health Nurse here in the shops except for the X-ray and it will be scheduled by the nurse.
The procedures list the responsibility of the employee and the super visor; therefore, it is important that this information be extended to then to insure that the procedures are being followed.
Each supervisor should personally handle at the Monday morning safety meetings with all employees who may be involved in repairs coming in contact with asbestos tape so they may have a clear cut understanding of the removal procedures as described in the attachment. We are also making arrangements to have a bulletin posted outlining the employee responsibility. In promul gating this information it will only be necessary for the supervisors to read or otherwise inform employees concerning the attachment listing employee res ponsibility. Each supervisor under whose jurisdiction this type work might occur must make arrangements to order the necessary protective equipment as listed under the supervisor responsibilities. Under all circumstances the removal of asbestos materials will be handled under the direct supervision of a responsible person who has knowledge of the procedures and methods of handling for disposal.
