Kel,
It looks like we can have our strongest attendance on August 24 so we'd like to confirm that on your calendar for a meeting with SSP if we could. We are flexible on the time and logistics but our first: instinct would be to suggest that you come to our office at 11:30. We can have a chance to do introductions and then continue over a lunch session if that would work for you. We'd typically end around 1:00-1:15 so that would be my initial suggestion - 11:30-1:00 or so, here at Morgan Lewis. Again, our office is diagonally across the intersection from ERA headquarters at 12th and Pennsylvania so if is a less than 5 minute walk, door to door. Our conference rooms afford a little nicer setting than most of the ERA conference rooms and have a better cal! in set-up for those who don't make it in person so that is why we tend to have ERA leadership come to our office, rather than the more normal vice

versa. But we can reverse it and bring our crew over to ERA HQ. if you would prefer that but we tend to fill the room. We can also be flexible on timing In the day, although we generally try to keep the meeting between 10 and 4 to allow people to make various travel connections.
What ought I do at this point to firm up the time and location? Is there somebody you'd like me to work with on the specifics of that?
Regards,
Ron
P.S. - As a side note, thanks for having the Task Force Report published. It is encouraging to those interested in this topic both that the Administrator is taking such a strong interest: in this area and that he is making sure to be transparent about his thinking and the direction he wants to take the program.

Kel,
This is in follow-up to the call we had with you, Cyndy Mackey and various others about two weeks ago. I am counsel to the Superfund Settlements Project, a business coalition group with member companies from a range of industries, ranging from manufacturing, to energy, to mining, to chemicals and various others. What they have in common is an interest in the Superfund program because they are regularly in the position of being individual PRPs or parts of group PRPs. The group has existed about two decades, with a focus on working with the EPA on ways to make clean-ups go faster, better and consistent with sound public policy. For years we've regularly had officials from EPA attend our meetings, ranging from folks at the AA level or the Administrator's office, to senior career program staff such as Jim Woolford and Cyndy Mackey. The overall goal for us of any such session is simply to have an exchange of ideas so that the PRP community can hear about the overall program direction and offer our observations on what might be adjusted or improved. We follow "Chatham House Rules" - no external discussion by our members about the content of the meeting, etc. There's never, for example, been a press story written about the meeting discussion and we think that is important as a means to promote frankness on both sides.
Our group meets quarterly and we'd be very pleased if you would consider joining us for our August gathering. We meet at the Morgan Lewis offices, which are directly across the street from EPA HQ so it is about a five minute walk for you. We can be flexible on timing but we've often had the EPA guests join us over the lunch hour and welcome you to join us for the lunch. Typically we spend an 60-90 minutes in discussion. We stay away from discussions of individual sites and try to focus on broader programmatic issues that we think could use attention. Typically we have around 15 people total in the room or joining by conference call.
So, with that by way of a "wind-up", is there a chance you would join us in August for our next meeting? We have flexibility on a date and are primarily focused on the last two weeks of August. Tuesdays-Thursdays tend to the be best. Would any of August 22 or 24, or August 29 or 30 be an option for you to join us?

Thanks for considering this. If you want to get a better feel for us and our interaction with the ERA, you can certainly talk with Jim Woolford or Cyndy Mackey, who are very familiar with us and, I think, the positive relationship we've had over the years with those directing the Superfund program.
Regards,
Ron Tenpas
