DATE 3/3/52 PAGE APPROVED fir TITLE GENERAL SPECIFICATION COVERING CONTRACTED INSULATION WORK 1900 INS-C 1 OF 3 The specification contained herein shall govern the general conditions under which contract insulation work shall he done in the Lake Charles Plant of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company* 1. The Insulating Contractor shall fbrnish all labor, insurance, hand tools, transportation, scaffolding and all other equipment to perfona the specified work in accordance with Pittsburgh's specifications. Pittsburgh shall furnish lights and electrical power, water and when specified also the Insulating materials required to perform the specified work. .2 If the work to be done is specified to be performed for a lump sum bid price, then such bids shall be obtained from competent and reliable Insulating Contractors to perform the specified work. Each bid shall contain the following* (1) Lump sum bid price to perform the specified work in accordance with Pittsburgh's specifications. (2) Unit prices to perform work not covered in the lump sum bid which may be required and which shall be performed In accordance with Pittsburgh's specifications. Unit prices shall be based on the following units* (a) Per foot of straight or bent pipe or tubing based on next full foot when lengths are not even foot lengths. (b) Per fitting of welded or screwed ella, tees, unions, reducers, branches, screwed or welded valves and flanged valve bodies. (c) Per flange. Flanged valves shall be counted as three flanges and one fitting. Reducing tees and saddle welds shall take the price of a fitting of the branch line size. (3) The average number of men per day that the contractor proposes to have on the job and the approximate length of time to complete the work. Each Insulating Contractor whom Pittsburgh chooses to bid. is held to have carefully examined the drawings and specifications, to have visited the site, and to have fully informed himself of all conditions under which the work is to be carried on. Failure to have informed himeelf in no way relieves him from any of the work contemplated by the drawings and specifications. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SPECIFICATION NO. date 3/3/S2 page APPROVED TITLE GENERAL SPECIFICATION COVERING CONTRACTED INSULATION WORK IBM MI4IU INS-C 2 OF 3 3* The Insulating Contractor shall obtain written approval from both Pittsburgh's Inspection Department and the Field Engineer before per forming any work on any vessel or piping stating that the item has been tested, approved and is ready to be insulated. On lump sum bid work, any removal and reinsulating shall be termed as an extra and shall then be regarded as unscheduled work and the Insulating Contractor shall be paid on the basis of the unit prices established in Insulat ing Contractor's lump sum bid and the quantities involved shall be determined by Pittsburgh. U* When Insulating work is being done in conjunction with the installati n of piping, vessels, equipment and other items the Insulating Contractor shall schedule and perform his work so as to coordinate with said installation. 5. If during the performing of the scheduled work any additional work on the specified project is required, bulletins giving full description of the work shall be issued to the Insulating Contractor and shall be regarded aa part of the Project Specification. On lump sum bid work, the unit prices established in the Insulating Contractor's proposal shall prevail for such work. 6. All contracted insulation shall be done with strict adherence to the specifications covering said Job with variations from the specifications on any item being permitted only upon written approval of the authorized inspector acting for Pittsburgh. 7. All contracted insulation shall be done in a neat workmanlike manner and shall be performed to the satisfaction of and shall be inspected and approved by the authorized inspector acting for Pittsburgh. No work will be regarded as complete until approved by Pittsburgh's authorized inspector. 8* The Insulating Contractor shall on completion of the work leave the premises substantially free of all foreign material and equipment used to the satisfaction of Pittsburgh. ? The Insulating Contractor shall observe good housekeeping in the areas in which work is being done at all times while working in the plant. 10. The Insulating Contractor shall suitably protect at all times all Pittsburgh equipment from damage or spillage, due to materials or equipment used by the contractor. In cases where insulating material gets on Pittsburgh's facilities, the Insulating Contractor shall clean all surfaces at Pittsburgh's direction. 11. In Insulating valves and other equipment, the Insulating Contractor shall protect the valve atern and/or other surfaces by properly masking or covering with grease as directed by Pittsburgh. During the performances of the work specified the Insulating Contractor shall schedule work and perform work to facilitate Pittsburgh's opera tions* 13* If for any reason atmospheric conditions or other conditions occurring during the fulfilling of these specifications act in a way that might prove detrimental to the life or performance of the insulation, and the Insulating Contractor has not taken preventive measures, then the Insulating Contractor shall remove said insulation and reapply the insulation aa specified at his expense* lb* The Insulating Contractor shall observe all Pittsburgh's safety rules as specified in Pittsburgh's "Contractors' Safety Handbook" and shall obtain the approval of Pittsburgh's Safety Department on all scaffold ing and rigging, but this approval shall in no way release the con tractor from the responsibility of the safety of the contractor's employees, Pittsburgh's employees and others* 15* The Insulating Contractor shall issue a one year warranty guarantee of the workmanship of the work performed* 16* Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company shall have final authority in all matters covered in this specification* ) BB 0014626 |
