Process Description: PurrFormance Diesel, Inc. (PFD) is a heavy-duty diesel engine (HDDE) repair shop. PFD provides repair and maintenance services on all types ofHDDEs, from light-heavy to heavyheavy. PFD specializes in diesel fuel injection components, including fuel pumps, injection headers, injectors, and turbos. PFD does not perform work on "high-performance" trucks that are used in competitions. PFD cannot clean diesel particulate filters (DPF) on site. The DPF is removed and sent to a dealer for cleaning. PFD uses On Board Diagnostic scanners to help diagnose issues with HDDEs. If a customer has issues with an emission control device, it can be related to upstream problems with the fuel injection system. PFD has equipment on site to test high pressure fuel rail systems and pumps after the components are rebuilt prior to installation on a HDDE. PFD also works on small engines and generator sets. Page 2 of3 CLOSING CONFERENCE Compliance Assistance: During the inspection, EPA discussed that modifications to EPAcertified HDDE vehicles with tuning can increase emissions out the tail pipe.
