In the scientific community, D, R. laves, S. Singer and M.E. Anderson have been sent manuscripts of.the articles to be published in the AIHA Journal. Armstrong will be likewise Informed as soon as possible. W, S, Guy may be informed after publication. ' RECEIVED Tentative plans still call for informing local physicians at a staff meeting at St. Johns Hospital prior to publication of the articles, although other alternatives are being reviewed by the Medical Department. In addition, physicians connected with our Cordova and Decatur plants will be informed prior to publication. Informing these physicians will be done through the Medical Department by letter and possibly through personal contact. B. McCusick of Haskell Laboratories at DuPont has been sent copies of the JUN 5 - 19QQ manuscripts to be published, ' R i nnvicr ru J . U A V i$ After discussion it was again concluded that NIOSH Is the correct government regulatory body to Inform and that the informing should take place as quickly as possible. F. A, Ubel has identified Phillip Landigen, M.D. as a possible scientific contact at NIOSH. He is a n 'epidemiologist with the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluation and Field Studies. It was suggested that Nelson Schmidt be consulted to identify other possible contacts. The Medical Department will follow up on this. : Appropriate 3M employees in the U.S. will be informed (updated) on the status of the fluorochemicals in blood situation by videotape in lace June or July of this year. ' After discussion it was decided not to show the Hodge videotape. ' For purposes of informing, U.S. customers of fluorochemicals have been divided ; <i into two groups: ' Trial Exhibit 3103 3MA10066935 3M M N00000756 (A) Those who have been previously informed and (IJ) Those who have not. Group (A) will be updated by W. F. Scown by telephone prior to publication of articles in the AIHA Journal. .Guidelines for the update are attached to these minutes (page6,7). U . S. customers who have not b.een previously informed Group (B) will be given information upon request. Informing will be done by telephone. Guidelines for informing these customers are also attached to these meeting minutes (page 8 ). Management personnel at Antwerp were informed by videotape of the status of this program. Dr. Haustermonn was present at the meeting. At the meeting it was decided that Antwerp employees should be informed by a Safety Committee Meeting. A videotape will be used - possibly the same one which is to be shown to U.S. employees. At the meeting it was also decided that Dr. Haustermann will come to St. Paul for a briefing on the blood program by the Medical Department. The visit will likely take place within one month. Dr. Haustermann has recommended that the Belgium Government not be informed at this time. It was decided that his recommendation will be followed. J. D. LaZerte informed 3M-UK, 3M-Germany, ICI-UK and Hoechst (Germany) on his European trip. ICI-UK was Informed by phone while a personal visit was made to Hoechst. No plans are being made to inform Rimar. They are apparently aware of the situation and are doing blood analyses. Managing directors of subsidiaries will be informed as soon as possible of the fluorochemicals in blood program. A letter from L. C. Krogh to these directors will be sent out by the end-of May, 1980. A draft of the letter is attached to these minutes (page9_j,10). For the subsidiaries who deal with Hoechst, Agfa ConverttUgine Kuhlmann, Montedison or Fuji Film, copies of Che telephone guidelines (pages 6,7 ) will be included. Oils customers will be informed in the same manner as IJ.S. customers (Group U) . Information will be provided only upon request. The subsidiary toxicology contact will transmit questions to Dalles Zimmerman in St. Paul. He will obtain the appropriate answers and respond to the subsidiary toxicology contact. A request to publish an article entitled "Serum Organic/lnorganic Fluoride Levels of Rural Chinese" by Jon Belisle was approved. The article is to be published after publication of the two articles in the AIHA Journal. A request by R. E. Ober to present a paper at a symposium in 1981 on use of cholestyramine in removing fluorochemicals from 3M employees was not approved. The studies have not yet begun. Other A ction to lie Taken 1.
