ROYD R. SAYERS, M. 0. Industrial Hygiene Foundation Trustee and Member of Medical Committee -- 1936.1953 The Industrial Hygiene Foundation notes with sorrow the passing of Dr. Royd R. Sayers on April 23 in his 80th year. H e was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Commissioned in 1915 following-medical school and internship in Buffalo, Dr. Sayers spent his entire professional career in governmental service. From 191? to 1932 he was Chairman of Health and Safety Division, Bureau of Mines, U.S. Department of Interior. Subsequently, he became medical director in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) assigned as Chief of the Division of Industrial Hygiene of the National Institutes of Health. It was in this capacity that he was chosen to serve on the Air Hygiene Foundation's original Medical Committee in 1936, and also elected a Foundation Trustee. In 1939 representing the American Association of Industrial Physicians and Surgeons(of which he was President) as well as IHF and the USPHS, Dr. Sayers was responsible for conducting a Symposium on Sick Absence. The Annual Meeting statistical report on Sick Absence to the Foundation membership from 1940 through 1953, resulted from this meeting, and was characteristic of the close working relationship between IHF and the USPHS in such research.
