Memorandum 1978 February 28 Page 2
8. ASBESTOS MONITORING! Currently being done only in marinite shop (8-10 people). Potential exposure exists in the entire Cathode Department and Potrooms. Supposedly all pot relining with non-asbestos materials is to be completed some time in 1978. Report on progress in "replacement" of potlining material and marinite to be solicited from Pittsburgh Industrial Hygiene and/or A.T.C.
Due to marinite handling it was suggested that screening for asbestos effects be done on all employees in Building 81 (shop). The Committee feels that all sawing and sanding of marinite be transferred and confined to Building 52. ATTN. MESSRS. R. BRIM AND D. FREEMAN.
9. An aspect of this Committee's function is to report quarterly to Mr. Ray's Managers' Staff Meeting. It was suggested and approved that we seek permission to report monthly or periodically to Mr. Ray's Monthly Staff Meeting since Hygiene and Safety are closely related. Dr. Kamperman will pursue this subject.
10. Establishment of an achievement "log" for the Committee was discussed and ultimately recommended. It will be the responsibility of individual members to bring topics that they feel are worthy of inclusion to the Secretary's attention.
Meeting adjourned at 12:30 p. m.
Next scheduled meeting to be held 1978 March 02 at 10:00 a. m. In Dr. Kamperman's office.
