Mixing another chemical with ammonia could cause a violent reaction, an explosion, etc. It is very important that transporter's papers verify that they are delivering ammonia. 3. ISSUE AN IGNITION SOURCE PERMIT TO THE TRUCK DRIVER AND DIRECT HIM TO THE UNLOADING AREA. Be aware of any work ongoing in the area that may be impacted by the unloading of the truck. 4. CHECK THE AMMONIA TANK LEVEL TO SEE THAT IT CAN HOLD THE CONTENTS OF THE TRUCK. Add 16.5 feet to the tank level. If this total is greater than 26 feet, a supervisor must initial this step of the procedure before you proceed. (NOTE: 16.5 feet is based on the truck containing 40000 lbs or 7750 gallons of ammonia. CLOSE THE BLEED VALVE AND HAVE THE DRIVER HOOK UP THE UNLOADING LINES. The liquid inlet line is connected to the truck unloading pump and the tank vent line is connected to the truck vapor space. 10. PRESSURE CHECK THE HOSE CONNECTIONS AND CORRECT AS NECESSARY. 11. PROCEED WITH LIQUID TRANSFER. The truck driver must remain with the truck at all times during the unloading operation. The Operations person responsible for the unloading (the lead operator) should check on the truck periodically. Start Tank Level/Pressure Final Tank Level/Pressure 12.
