KB. TERMAT' w s -d s t Inter Office Truck Operation* May 9, i960 Mr. J, V. Durstiae Subject: Carcinogens Task Force Report to E&S atv^ MAS Subcommittees Reference: Totrr letter to D. D. Bakery et al, dated May 1, 1980, same subject As requested in the referent letter, Light Truck Engineering has reviewed the subject report and offers the following comments for your consideration in modifying the report prior to subcommittee presentation. The sentence on page of the Executive Summary that, "The top / three of the eight priority substances, asbestos, chromium compounds and benzene, were examined in detail." This needs . to be qualified to reflect the fact that just portions of the three priority substances have received intensive examination to date. The recommended strategy to eliminate the three carcinogens / by Job #1, 1965 ns stated on page 2 of the Executive Summary is probably optimistic far the reasons stated in the recom mendations. /A more compelling reason is the scarcity of available Company financial resources over the next several, model years which would suggest that a three to five-year time open beginning in 1965 would be a more appropriate strategy for tbtal elimina tion of the three top carcinogens. It should be recognised that Product Engineering Procedure / PEP 3-189, although recently rewritten, has not as yet been reviewed and approved by all the affected activities. Other than the three issues noted above, Light Truck Engineering concurs in the report as presented. -- 105555 006435 PRODUCED BY FORD
