Exposure Limitations The standard remains at 5 fibers (a fiber being longer than 5 micro-- meters) per cc of air as measured by the membrane filter method--for an 8 hour time weighted average. This is effective vXily 7, 1972. As of v>j1 y 1, 1976 the 8 hour time weighted average will be reduced to 2 fibers per'cc of air.' There is a ceiling concentration of 10 fibers per cc at any time. This new standard has details on the use of respirators, ventilation, wetting down of asbestos, clothing, lockers, laundering, caution signs, medical exams, etc. are covered in this standard.
