Three New Products from Present activities of Vinnell's Phil ippine Division are spread over the Philippine Islands as well as on Guam in the Marianas. Last summer in the Philippines Vinnell work included construction of an approach pier; a wharf extension and dry dock mooring for the ship repair facility at the U. S. Naval Base at Subic Bay; a community center at the U. S. Naval Communications Station at San Miguel, Zambales; the modifi cation of a power plant and air condi tioning of the Receiver Building at the Regional Relay Facility at Clark Air Force Base. In addition, 300 of a total of $40 family housing units for the U. S. Navy were constructed at Clark Air Force Base. The remaining 240 units, destined for the U. S. Naval Station at Sangley Point and Subic Bay, were scheduled for completion by the end of 1970. UCC 007590 Atlas Asbesto Vinnell's associated mining com panies have expanded their production facilities and have developed new prod ucts for U. S. and foreign markets. Vinnell Mining and Minetals Cor poration, a subsidiary of Vinnell Cor poration, has started technical investi gation for the production of fine ground silica of high purity, and has installed a new cone crusher in the Oro Grande silica plant which will considerably in crease the present capacity of the plant. Atlas Asbestos Co., an associate company of Vinnell Mining and Miner als Corporation, has recently developed in its laboratory three new asbestos products which are now commercially produced and marketed from its Co alings mine and mill. These products are known as AZ-8, AZ-100 and AZ20S. The AZ-8 is more of a flake type, rather than the usual fibre type, of asbestos. It has a pleasing texture and is being used by the industry for the manufacture of acoustical ceilings. The AZ-100 is a very fine type of asbestos fibre which has been found beneficial in the manufacture of joint cement used in dry wall housing construction. These products are available close to western markets thus offering an eco nomical advantage over Canadian sources. The AZ-20S product is used in fibred asphalt emulsions and is es pecially acceptable for the manufac ture of roof coating materials. Due to certain physical characteris tics, such as high degree of whiteness and high absorbency, Coalinga asbes tos has been a source of fibre for the manufacture of vinyl asbestos floor tile throughout the United States and South America. "The development of these new products and their availability to the industry undoubtedly are diversifying our market. Based upon current fore casts, we expect appreciable increase in demand for Coalinga asbestos. For this reason we have expanded our production facilities accordingly," W. R. S. military air craft; aircraft compass calibration at the U. S. Naval Air Station at Cubi Point; and the installation of an elec trical power system at the U. S. Naval Base at Subic Bay. Also started last summer at the U. S. Naval Station at Subic Bay was construction on 250,000 gallon water tank as well as site improvement and related utilities. This project was com pleted the end of 1970. In the Marianos While doing a number of projects for the Guam Oil and Refinery Com pany (GORCO) on the island of Guam last summer, Vinnell's Philip pine Division began some new work for the U. S. Naval Facilities Engi neering Command. New projects include construction of; a 166 foot high control tower with air conditioning, ventilating, electrical power and lighting systems and com munication ducts, an elevator, park ing space and other related work; and an Air Cargo Building at the Air Ter minal. Additions to existing structures such as the Cold Storage Building at Anderson Air Force Base; George Washington Junior High School at Ordot; Vocational Technical High School at Mangilao and the Finegayan Naval Communications Station are scheduled, as well as drainage correc tion at the Naval Magazine in the Bravo area and fuel and water supply lines at Tanguisson Point Power Plant. Ralph E. Dickinson was appointed Accounting Manager of Vinnell Cor poration, Lynn N, Carlson, Vice Pres ident for Administration and Finance, announced. Ralph began his association with Vinnell in 1957 as Cost Accountant at Vinnell Steel in Irwindale. In 1963 he was transferred to the Home Office in Alhambra to assist in the consolida tion of the corporate Financial State ments. Soon after, be became Chief Accountant of the corporation, a posi tion that he held until his promotion to Accounting Manager. Prior to joining Vinnell Steel, Ralph was Controller-Treasurer of a nation wide manufacturing firm with divisions in the East and wholly owned subsid iaries on the West Coast. L. N. Carlson, Assistant Vice Presi dent for Finance, has been promoted to Vice President and given the re sponsibilities of Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, William B. Thompson, President, Vinnell Corpo ration, announced. Lynn, who joined Vinnell in 1954, brings to his new position many years of diversified experience in administra tion and finance, not only on domestic projects and operations but on the international scene as well. His back ground includes increasingly responsi ble positions within the Corporation at Vinnell headquarters in Alhambra, Cali fornia, in the states of Washington and Arizona, and at several overseas proj ects in the Far East, Middle East and Southeast Asia. His latest assignment abroad was in 1966 and 1967 during the construction of airfield facilities at Ching Chuan Kang Air Base in Taiwan, where he was Deputy Project Manager. Prior to joining Vinnell, Lynn was Treasurer of Peterson Tractor, Inc., a three store Caterpillar dealer serving the intermouMain areas of Wyoming, Utah and Idaho, with principal offices at LogaD, Utah. He majored in Busi ness Administration at Utah State University, Logan, after completing accounting courses at LDS Business College, Salt Lake City.
