Tempi re Gorge in the Hamer sley Range oarries a north flowing tributary^! '
of the Fortesoue River and lies about 20 miles due south of Jiulga Dowau* '''

age*- The rooks exposed in Tampiire Gorge.-eonsist predoainaitly of .`4**
sites interbedded with' silioeous or oherty" ironstone*' The deposita.'61
oroeidolite asbestos are everywhere assooiated.with a-banded, lronstbniii^^r,^.
whioh is highly silioeous and of a'dark brown color* ;' '
Bands of orooidolite ooour at two horizons in the sedimentary beds*. - V;cvrii.TiiL The lower horizon is close to the base of the 'cliffs of the Gorge, andv.%;,.. oontains a vein of orooidolite averaging about 2-1/2 inohes in thiokness^.;.'1'
green massive rook, whioh hy miorosbdpio examination appea'rato have#! composition identical to that of the fibrous orooidolite* This massive rook, whioh weathers to a dark brown oolor, is thought to be identloal . ,*C S with potential oroeidolite, whioh is oommonly associated with the fibrous ?r* variety..in the deposits of the Cape Frovinoe of .Afrioa*
The second orooidolit-bearing horizon lies at an elevation of about.'
feet above the base of the oliffs, and the orooidolite' here ooours
number of narrow parallel veins lying in the .bedding planes of . a. fei

Hy examination -did not-inelude-ai-i--tbo^prospebtingr areas-being^wori|c^ but from information supplied to me in bonversation with a number ~di peotors I was able to form the opinion that all the orooidolite ooourredW in a manner similar to that desoribed above* '
A considerable amount of fibre is available in the oliff faoes and Canto won without much diffioulty at the outorop* It is doubtful, however^\^^|:n?'whether the narrow width of the. veins will permit of these- deposits being worked economically by underground methods, owing to the large amount of ;.;', worthless rook material whioh would necessarily have to be removed in re covering the valuable fibre*
These deposits are interesting in that they appear to be similar in their . mode of ooourrence to the deposits of blue asbestos or orooidolite, in Africa* The asbestos in the Cape Province of Afrioa is oommonly referred "to as "Cape Blue", and is found in seams interbedded with the beuided ironstone of the lower Griqua Town series of the Transvaal system, whioh is probably the equivalent in age to the upper part of the Nullagine series in Western Australia. These deposits are fully desoribed in Memoir Ho. 12 of the Geological Survey of the Union of South Afrioa. . The conclusion is there
arrived at .that .'-the orooidolite is of. sedimentary' origin and has been^-'-.
formed by the metamorphism of ferruginous'q.uart*ites,s..whioh are postulated .';.
to have had an original oomposition pebuliarly suited'-'to the formation'^'
orooidolite-.
