Pick another dozen from the bibliography of my Development paper that we have not already listed, make them earlier papers on asbestosis.
.,,....
carc1nogen1c1ty 01 cnrysotile asbes~os. !he ~ross papers and 1rosper show very high levels of asbestos from uncontrolled sawing of Transite-type boards (industry sources, note; Trosper's from J-M). Weston shows they sawed A-C sheets in the plants where they are made, nothing much since we have witnesses from 1"1anville (have you listed them?). 'Wheatley is the sleeper, showing conoealmer:.t of asbesto-
sis in the J-M mines from 1930 -- this couples nicely with Pedley (see my notes).
Legge's book starts on asbestos with, ttThe story of' asbestosis is a long one." And the Sweet's Catalog section of J-M products shows them recom.~ending the use of a carborumdum wheel for sawing up a lot of flat Transi~e"in the field" -- I think this could be used effectively in cross examination of their medical whores
(on p. 34).
In addition, ymi may wish to not list several by Kotin, holding them for cross exa!l'lini.tion. The top one h1;1s him ~a,ying: asbestos causes cancer of the lurg fo a
paper presented in 1956, published May 1957 The next has hi.~ saying the same in
an article published in June 1956 in sli~htly hedged terms, citing refs published
in 1955 (p. 382). And the last is~ 1958 paper saying there is no safe threshold for a carcinogen, last paragraph.
In case they w~nt to use the lousy IHF study on miners of 1958. throw in one m
more, Mancusos critique of that one,
.Mancuso, '!. Ann. N. I. Acad. Sci. 1,Jli 589 (1965).
Finally, I suggest that you list the letter from Canadian Johns,_J:'ianville to the effect thet warning labels are now going to be affixed to sacks of asbestos fiber, dated October 1, 1968. I have lost it, bpt I'm sure it's in the R-M package Ron sent you. That's helpful but not essential.
Make sure to list some useless refs with these, just to J<Pep them busy.
And copy this stuff for yourself right away and return it to me, please.
Good luck,
I
