My dear Mr. Schaefer: I quite agree with your position in regard to ETHYL Fluid drums, that it is necessary to keep them clean and free of scale. After looking over your plan of operation for doing this I see no possible objection to the means which you have selected. If the drum is cleaned by the usual method before the tumbling process is undertaken there will be no ap preciable quantity of vapor given off from it, and the Insertion of the chain and acid should be able to be done without any ap preciable increase in present hazards. 1 see no objection what ever to the method but on the contrary I approve of it heartily. It Is only necessary, it seems to me, to realise that there must not be any dust given off Into the air at any point In this operation. From the description of the method I see no reason why there should b dust. / X am expecting to visit the. plant sometime In the near future and will notify you in advance of my coming.
