L'esame delle alterazioni pleuriche e stato condotto solo sui soggetti con anamnesi negativa per tutte le altre affezioni causa abituale di sequele pleuriche, e riguarda gli ispessimenti e le calcificazioni della pleura. Quali paramelri funzionali vengono presi in esame solo CV e VEMS, espressi come percentuale dei valori standard della CECA. Si e soprattutto osservato la correlazione del decremento di essi con la fase di lavorazione e col settore manufatturiero: a parity di quadro radiologico o di durata dell'esposizione il de cremento risulta significativamente maggiore nelle fasi iniziali, e, rispcttivamente. nei tessili. A parita di tipc radiologico di lesione il grado minore o maggiore di profusione dell'opacitk incide parallelamente su CV c VEMS: il gradominore o maggiore di estensione soprattutto sul VEMS. Viene confermata la relativa rarita della compromissione, perlo meno di quelle ECgrafica. del cuore destro (2-3 % dei casi con onde P di tipo polmonare o con turbe della conduzione intraventricolare destra). Infine si rileva che dal punto di vista assicurativo il riconoscimento di una invalidity pensionabile pare spesso prescindere dalla fase lavorativa in cui era impiegato il soggetto, cosa che contrasta sia con la logica aspettativa sia coi dat: riferiti. che indirizzano invece verso un progressivo decadimento del rischio col progredire della lavorazione verso la fase finale. Epidemiological studies on asbestosis in asbestos nui- TTiis study concerns 635 subjects exposed to the risk of asbestosis in the three principal manufacture sections of Piedmont: asbestos-cement, friction materials for car brakes and clutches, textiles. About two thirds of the subjects examined had presented a claim for assessment of occupational disease, the remainder had been dismissed from the factories for different reasons. The clinical, radiological and functional data were analyzed both for sections and for decades of exposure time, and for type of work: (his last considered, for the sake of semplicity and in each section, as working phase, respectively initial, intermediate or final of the entire working cycle. The chest X-rays were classified according to the extended scheme of BIT (1968). More than one half of the cases presented a ra diological type of opacity s , a little more than 10 a type t, while about one third of the cases did not present radiological lung changes diagnostic for asbestosis. The time of exposure necessary for the appearance of opacities s or t was much shorter for the textile workers than for the workers of the other two sections. The same was true for the workers engaged in the initial working phases, compared to those engaged in the intermediate and final phases; moreover, for the same exposure time, the workers of the initial phases showed a more diffuse pattern than the workers of the intermediate and especially of the final phases. The pleural alterations (thickening and pleural calcifications) were considered only in the subjects with no history of other diseases which can usually produce pleural changes. Pleural alterations were found in more than one fifth of all the subjects investigated, in one fourth if one considered only the textile workers, where the incidence was higher and the appearance was more precocious: an early occurrence was observed also for the subjects engaged in the initial working phases in general. The most frequent change was the parietal thickening, fol lowed by the costo-phrenic obliteration, the diaphragmatic calcifications and the parietal calcifications. The first two types of change were prevalent in the workers of the initial working phases, the calcifications in the workers of the final ones.
