Dear Mr. Kinsman:
Before leaving tovmMr. VYagner asked me to thank you for your method of handling the inquiry from the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company relative to our operations at Savannah, Georgia.
It will be necessary for the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company to defend a case before the Georgia Indus trial Accident Commission involving a white laborer who entered one of our empty gasoline tanks to clean the sides. They re port that about four minutes after the man entered the tank, he was gassed. 'When he was lifted out, he regained consciousness in about forty minutes, and in twenty-four hours developed lobar pneumonia, from which he is nowrecovering after a serious i ll ness. The gasoline which this tank had contained contained about 2 cc. of lead per gallon and about 16 pounds of antioxidant No. 3 per thousand barrels, and the insurance company expect the claim to b e made that the lead or the antioxidant served as an additional poison agent.
Does your medical department have any data which we
could pass on to the United State Fidelity and. Guaranty Company
on the effect of lead and antioxidant No. 3 in the proportions
I i
normally used in gasoline?
