Goltra, M.D. Corporate Medical Directa DATE July 7, 1 086 SUBJECT Asbestos Seminar Medical Services is planning an asbestos seminar to be held on October 1415, 1986 in Oklahoma City. The seminar will cover facility asbestos assessment, worker protection, federal regulations, current abatement industry practice and legal aspects of asbestos abatement rsee attached agenda). This seminar is a result of a changing asbestos abatement environment. On June 20, OSHA promulgated revised general industry and construction industry standards with regard to asbestos abatement and employee expo sure. These_ standards will take effect July 21. These regulations are taking a more stringent approach to controlling occupational exposure to asbestos. Many states are also adopting and implementing stringent asbes tos abatement rules. On June 3, Medical Services published an occupational health guideline on asbestos. A revised guideline will be published by mid-July that includes the OSHA revisions. This guideline should be used to develop individual facility asbestos handling procedures. Medical Services has planned this seminar to address the asbestos abatement solu tion. A seminar attendees list is provided with this memo. All are expected to attend.
