Correct interpre tation of the amendments and their relationship to the original specific specification is important. DISCUSSION: All Specifications are issued as original documents. From time to time amendments are added to these Specifications or else the complete Specification is revised and reissued. Various functions associated with Federal Specifications follow. I. Original Specification - Codes such as TT-L-26, TT-P-460 etc. are used to designate Federal Specifications. These assignments are made by the General Services Administration and usually appear in the upper right corner of the document. II. Amendments - The initial amendment to an original Specification is designated "Amendment 1". "Amendment 2" supersedes "Amendment 1" etc. At all times both the original Specification and its latest amendment are in effect. For example Specification TT-E-^90 and its latest amendment (Amendment 2) are setive concurrently. III. Bids With Exceptions - Occasionally a bid may be received wherein the product specification is to differ in some respects to that shown on the original specification and any applicable amendments. Such exceptions must be presented, in writing, to the Sales Department by the government agency contemplating to purchase the material. The laboratory will advise the Sales Department whether a product meeting such specification exceptions is feasible to formulate. Laboratory will also advise the Sales Department, when necessary, of any uncertain performance requirements due to time limitations of fully evaluating the formulation before the bid is due. IV. Interim Specification - Interim or Pending Specifications are prefixed with a double zero to the ultimate specification number. Ihis double zero appears as part of the numerical characters within the code. Such Specifications are in effect prior to final approval by a government agency. Example: Current Specification TT-P-86c is contemplated to be revised. It will be issued as TT-P-0086d during the pending period and supersedes TT-P-86c. The revised version will then become TT-P-86e and it supersedes TT-P~0O86d etc. E Si P 7?150 Page 2 of 2 V. Conversion:- Military To Federal Specifications Some Military Specifications have been converted to Federal Specifications. Such Federal Specification documents contain a "Supersession Data" paragraph indicating which Military Specification it has replaced. Example: TT-P-61i5 replaces MIL-P-735a VI. 3W Specification Rexes - Any product formulated to meet a Federal Specification and sold to Government Agencies must be assigned an alphanumeric Sales Classified "Special" rex within the 90's series as outlined in Section 2 of the Product Classification Manual. 0007-SWP-0059321 .'v* -- -> i - r'i.^3 x RAW MATERIALS REQUIREMENTS CHANGE NOTICE FOAM 20603 INSTRUCTIONS: Prepare in triplicate.
