Grumbles December 12, 1985 TRANSPORT CANADA HAZARDOUS MATERIALS REGULATIONS VISTA Transport Canada Regulations specifying placarding requirements and material of construction have been amended (attached). Any chemical requiring a placard must have a placard that is plasticized or otherwise water repellant. This requirement affects shipments through Canada as well as to Canadian destinations, Canadian classifications are basically equivalent to DOT classifica tions except that they use the international scheme for flaramability/combustibility. Anything with a flashpoint above 140F is non-hazardous if it exhibits no other hazards. For example. Muriatic Acid is a corrosive in both regulations while ALFOL 8 (flash above 140) is non-hazardous in Canada. The plasticized placards cost $2 - 2.50 each. A Canadian supplier, Top Tape and Label, has been recommended as a source. Their number is 416-335-4423. (2) Notwithstanding subsection (l), where a transborder consignment of dangerous goods referred to in that subsec tion is offered for transport before October 31, 1985, the dangerous goods may be transported if the safety marks for the dangerous goods are in compliance with (a) in the case of dangerous goods included in Class I.
