Some of these people have never been on a chemical site before (!) so I have provided the following, I thought it worth while sharing. Also, although we are the regulators, do not let us do things that would not otherwise be permissible. This sometimes happens on sites we regulate, its your right and duty to pull anyone (including me) into line if you think we are not safe on site. I have not specified ear defenders, presumably if we do enter any noisy areas the disposable ear foam plugs will suffice? Health and Safety on AGC Introduction: The site presents potential toxic hazards and explosive atmospheres. There are also some risks of acid/ chemical burns and mechanical incidents. Safe Working: Our safety is secured by the company, with our vigilance. 1. We follow all the safety instructions and briefings including signs e.g. if there is a sign for ear protection, before entering a building, we need to check if that is relevant (for example if not operational, we can enter). 2. We dont compromise their duty of care. We are the regulator; regulated companies can sometimes wrongly defer, because you are the regulator. 3. Dont distract the operator if there is a safety issue give them space. 4. Our protection is collective, we dont leave the group or go on exploratory ventures. If there is a nearby part of the process you want to see, ask. We stay as one group. 5. As a matter of procedure in C&L we do not enter zones 0 (cant!) and 1. If we might enter a zone 2 DSEAR zone, we have a gas alarm with us. I will have one with me. 6. In terms of DSEAR, I have checked this on previous occasions and am satisfied. In terms of PPE a minimum 1. EA shoes static dispersing and safety toes 2. Yellow jacket 3. The new hard hat (blue no Peak) make sure you adjust it correctly, its not like the old hats (over 60 airsweb reports about hats). 2 4. Safety specs or goggles 5.
