The testsample appears to be a 2-phase dispersion(clearliquiwdith opaque solid)which rapidlyseparatesafteragitationN.o calculations were made toadjustfortheactualconcentrationofthetestsubstance in the testsample.

The testsolutionswere createdby directadditionofthe test substance tothe testvessels.Aftertestsubstanceadditiont,he vesselswere stirredwitha Pyrex pipetteforapproximatelyone minute. A whiteprecipitatweas seen on the bottom ofthe vessels afterstirringT.he particlewsere suspended duringaeration. Vigorousshakingwas done beforeremoving each sample aliquot fortesting. Test vessels: 1200 mL Pyrex@ FleakerSTM containing500 mL test solution Number of concentrations: 3 plus one referencecontroland two blankcontrols Temperature: 19-21OC Total Suspended Solids and pH for sludge on day of testing: 4380 mg/L and 7.87 respectively.

The testsubstanceexhibitedonlya slightinhibitoreyffect(<20%) upon respiratioanta nominal testsubstance concentrationof 1,000 mg/L atthe 30-minute exposure and no inhibitoreyffectatthe 3-hourexposure. The EC50 (respiratioinnhibitioins)thereforegreaterthanthe highestexposure concentration1,,000 mg/L.

Measurements
Dissolvedoxygen concentrationswere measured after30-minutes and 3-hourscontact time. A sub-sample of testsolutionwas quicklypoured from the exposure vesselintoa BOD bottleand dissolvedoxygen concentrationswere recorded using a dissolved oxygen meter every 30-seconds over a five-minuteperiod.The sub-sample was stirred whilerecordingoxygen. The sub-sample was returnedtothe main testsolutionafterthe 30-minute readings.

Procedure
The testwas conducted ingeneralaccordance withthe "ActivatedSludge Respiration InhibitioTnest",OECD No. 209 (1).Values were reportedtodifferenltevelsof
significancdeepending on the accuracy ofthe measuring devicesinvolvedinany one process.
CALCULATIONS
The reportedvalues are based on nominal concentrationsinthe testmedia atthebeginningofthetest.The concentrationstested and the correspondingresponse data derivedfrom thetoxicittyestare used tocalculatei,f possible,the medial effectiveconcentration,EC50 and the 95% confidenceintervably standardlogistic regressionmethods (i.e.P,robftAnalysis,Trimmed Spearman-Karber). The EC50 isdefinedas theconcentration estimatedto inhibitthe rateof respiratiobny 50% as compared tothecontrolsa,fter30-minutesand 3-hoursof exposure to the testsubstance.
RESULTS
The percent reductioninrespiratiornateand the median effectivceoncentrationE,C50, obtainedafter30minutes and 3-hours exposure tothe testsubstance P3025 are summarized inTable 1. The percentreductionin respiratiornateof the referencesubstance 3,5-DichlorophenolisalsoreportedinTable 1.
The median effectiveconcentration,3-hour EC50 of P3025 to activatedsludgewas determined as >1000 mg/L. The 95% Confidence Intervaclould not be calculated.
ACCEPTABILITY CRITERIA
This toxicittyestmeets qualitycriteriparovidedintestguidelines:
1) The two blankcontrolrespiratiornateswere within15 percentofeach otherafter3-hours exposure. The percentdifferencewsere 22.2 and 4.1 after30-minutesand 3-hoursof exposure, respectively.
2) The 3-hour percentinhibitioinnduced by the referencesubstance,"3,5-DCP", was withinthenormal range seen withthismixed liquorinthislaborator(yseeTable 2).
3) The reportedvalues were based on nominal concentrationsinthetestmedia atthe beginningof the microbialassay.
