(a) is respects work carried oat a any of tbe opcratioaa i* a shipyard in the case of ship or vessel whether or sot the shipyard fora* part of a harbour or wet dock; <m is fopectt work carried m a anj of the operations in a harbour or wei dock in tbe cate ot a ship (but sot ia the caw of a vessel other than a ship) aot being worh done-- (i) by tbe ouster or crew ct a ship, or (ii) oe board a ship during a trial no. or (iii) for tbe purpose of raising or eemoviag a ship which is took or stranded, or (iv) on a ship which is aot coder command, for the purpose of bringing it under entamand (2) () Nothing in Parts II to IX of these Regulations, eacept Regulations 6. 31 to 67. 73 to 78 and SO shall apply as respects the operations to a shipyard in which the operations are not carried on upon vessels which both exceed one hundred feet ia length measured overall and have aa overall depth exceeding nine feet six inches: (b) Nothing ia Parts II to IX of these Regulations, except Regulations 6. 31 to 67 and 73 to 78 shall apply as respects the carrying out of the operations, in a harbour or wet dock, upon ships which either do not exceed one hundred feet u length measured overall or have aa overall depth not exceeding nine feet six inches; (c) Regulations 7. 12 to 24 and 26 to 30 of these Regulations shall not apply as respects the carrying out of the operations, to a public dry dock, poo vessels which either do aot exceed one hundred feet in length measured overall or have aa overall depth not exceeding nine feet six inches. (3) The Chief inspector may (subject to such conditions as may be specified therein) by certificate in writing (which he may at his discretion revoke at any time) exempt from all or asy of the requirements of these Regulations-- (a) anv shipyard or soy harbour or wet dock or aa/ dan or detcriptioa of shipyards, harbours or wet docks: (h) aay dan or description of machinery, plant, equipment or <c) aay clan or description of ships or vends ;r M> any particular work or any dan or deacription of watt, if be ri satisfied that tbe requirements in respect of which tbe exemption i granted, shall be kept po*ed m a position where it may be convenient! mad by the persons employed. (3) This Regulation shall come into operation at the aspiration of twelve months after the making of these Regulation*. (2) In the case of a shipyard the provisions of this Regulation shall, at respects the operaboos earned on on board, in or oo the outside of a vend or part of a vessel, be in substitution for the provisions of section 47 of the principal Act (which relates to the removal of dust or fumes). ' Rivet fires ' 54. --(1) Rivet fires shall not be taken into or used in or remain in any confined space os board or in a vessel unleu there it adequate ventilation to prevent the accumulation of fumes. (2) No person employed shall move a rivet fire into any confined space on board or in a vessel unless be has been authorised by his employer to move the fire into that space. Placing of pas cylinders md acetylene generators 55. --(1) No cylioder which contains or has contained oxygen or nny Inflammable gas or vapour under pressure, and do acetylene generating plant, shall be installed or placed within fifteen feet of any substantial source of beat (including any boiler or furnace when alight) other than the burner or blow-pipe operated from the cylinder or plant. (2) No such cylinder and no such plant shall be taken below the weather deck in the case of a vessel undergoing repair, or below the topmost completed deck in the case of a vessel under construction, unless it is installed or placed in a part of the vessel which is adequately ventilated to prevent any dangerous concentration of gas or fumes. (3) It aha!! be the duty of the persons employed to comply with the foregoing provisions of this Regulation. Further provision as to acetylene generators (3) Efficient reducing and regulating valves for reducing the pressure of Iht gases shall be provided and maintained in connection with all cylinders cow taining oxygen or any mllammable gas or vapour under pressure while tfc gases or vapours from such cylinders are being used in any proceu of cutting welding or beating metal. (4) Where aoetylene gas is used for cutting, welding or bearing metal-- (a) a properly constructed and efficient back-pressure valve and Ram arrester shall be provided and maintained ia the acetyleoe supply pip between each burner or Wow-pipe and the acetylene generator, cylioder o container from which it is supplied, and shall be placed as sear a practicable to the burner or blow.pipe. except that these requirement shall not apply where as acetylene cylinder servo only one burner tt blow.pipe: and (ft) any hydraulic valve provided to pursuance of the preceding nfe paragraph shall be inspected on each day by every person who use the burner or blow-pipe os that day and it shall be the duty o every person employed who uses the bmer or btow-pipe to taspec the hydraulic valve accordingly.
