The ACM is found in gaskets in old piping, heat exchangers, piping around turbine and to a lesser extent, insulation around electrical wires, and gaskets in light fixtures. I have developed a maintenance procedure that will provide effective control of ACM dust encountered by the crafts involved. Industrial Hygiene will need to perform short-term monitoring to provide documentation that we are indeed not exposing employees to asbestos. Also, we may be able to use past data, if available, to make this determination. The intensive training and semi-annual fit-testing protocol (as required of the insulators) is not required by the crafts. However; Tyvek coveralls and a half-face respirator with a HEPA cartridge must be worn when handling ACM. Please carefully review the procedure once more before you issue it.
