Environmental Consultant Teadit Sale of Asbestos Gaskets in Houston July 30, 2001 Upon hearing that Teadit had a sales office and warehouse in Houston, where the firm's website said both asbestos- and non-asbestos gaskets were available, I asked Mr. Lawrence Madeksho of Houston to obtain some o f the asbestos products, which he did today. The gaskets, which were sold with merely a metal ring to hold the ones of like size together, have been placed in ziplock plastic bags and, along with the sales invoice and Teadit sales brochure, are being sent to Washington today by overnight mail. The brochure says Teadit has made the gaskets since 1965 in Brazil, began operations in 1988 in Houston, and is one of the largest fabricators o f spiral-wound gaskets in the world today. The brochure says that the major portion o f sales is in North America and Europe. Both the website and brochure indicate that asbestos gaskets are sold without -. stripes on the outer edge, unlike the various other types of gaskets (mica, graphite, PTFE) which have various colors of outer edge stripes. K Mr. Madeksho explained that he wanted gaskets with holes in them, and the Teadit office said they have only unpunched gasket sheets at their adjointing warehouse. Mr. Madeksho was told to drive to supplier Fluid Sealing Products Ltd. for cut Teadit gaskets, which he did. The gaskets were handed to him clipped together by size with metal rings, no package or warning of any kind. The sales receipt identifies the products as Asbestos.
