BASIC TRAINING GUIDELINES FOR:
ASBESTOS BASICS
REQUIRED FOR: All employees who handle asbestos.
RECOMMENDED FOR: All employees who have a potential for eiposure to asbestos fibers.
GOAL: To prevent exposures to asbestos by reviewing the key elements of the OSHA Asbestos Standard as implemented at Dow.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this training module, employees should be able to meet the following training objectives:
* Identify the primary route of exposure to asbestos and list the most common forms of asbestos-related diseases
* Discuss the relationship between smoking, asbestos exposure and lung cancer
* Identify the common types of asbestos, typical locations of asbestos containing materials, and discuss bow asbestos can be identified
' Describe how asbestos is monitored in the workplace and how the results relate to the job procedures that are required
* Identify the protective equipment required for work with asbestos materials
* Discuss the purpose of the medical surveillance program and identify the program components
* Explain the purpose of an asbestos inventory and discuss what is required during the six month inspection of asbestos containing materials
Acrylonitrile Traintoy Guidelines conlinnet/
Specify what determines whether or not an area is regulated' and what requirements apply to such an area
* List examples of engineering controls which can reduce acrylonitrile exposures
* Select the types of personal protective equipment that may be required when working around acrylonitrile
* Describe the emergency and first aid procedures for acrylonitrile overexposure
* Identify the purpose and the requirements of the acryJonitrile medical surveillance program
* Indicate how often medical exams are required and what symptoms the medical professional is looking for in order to identify overexposures to acrylonitrile
