Dr. Mancuso had a brief meet ing with Mr. Humphrey in my office* In the conversation, it was decided to have all Research work stopped and Dr* Mancuso was instructed by me to return all research materi al, such as death certificates, etc., to Lockland* It is to be noted that while Dr. Mancuso Is a Carey em ployee, his main interest is in Research. His Interest in Compensation Cases is only to the extent that he can absolve Carey through Research* As I indicated in my pre vious meeting with you, he had planned to publish any find ings on occupational diseases, among which is cancer. That Is, he feels that he has' proof that cancer is occupational in the asbestos industry* My interest in Dr* Mancuso from the beginning has beeo to find a way to reduce our costs of compensation insurance* He feels that this la a long range program and can only be done through a planned research approach, with corrective action, as recommended by an industrial hygienist* I can see some merit in his long range thinking, but It is not In line with my original justification for wanting to hire him, I recommend that we set up a meeting as soon as possible so that you can hear his story first hand, after which we can decide on hew to proceed. \
