Objective
The objectiveof thisamendment tothe QAPP and SOP's isto document changes to several processesthathave occurredwithinthefieldprogram of theMulti-CityStudy. The initiaflield survey resultedin severalissuesthatrequireeitheramendment or inclusionintothe defmed protocolforthe fieldstudy.
ProtocolChanges
Section 11.1.4 along with S OP M3-F-6 describesthe labelingof samples collectedduring the
study.In additiontothe samples highlightedin both ofthesedocuments, labelswillbe produced for'TripBlank' samples.
The QAPP describesthe collectionof samples fortheBattelleColumbus facilitoynly. At the clientrsequestsamples willbe collectedfortw'o additionlaboratoriest.he laboratories includetheclients'inhouse' environmentallab and a thirdpartyvalidationlab. The additionsoftheseunexpected samples triplethe number of containerscollectedduring fieldactivitiesT.o ensure accuratesample controla labelingnomenclature system has been implemented. Samples forBattellewillcontaina numerical identifietrhatcorrespondsto a given matrixfollowedby a 'B'. Samples fortheclientwin containthesame numerical identifiebrut willcontaina 'K' followingthenumber. Samples forthevalidatiolnabwillalso containthesame numericalidentifibeurt willcontaina'H' followingthenumber (ex.POTW EffluentID: MC-101B, MC-f 01K, and MC-101H)-
Section12.2of the QAPP indicatesthatsample'swillbe shipped atthe end of each day followingcollectionT.he logisticalnd schedulingdifficultiaesssociatedwith collectinogver one hundred samples in a givenday atvariouslocationswill,inmost cases,precludedthis from occurring.Ile amendment tothisprocessisto storethe samples on iceovernightand shipthem as earlyas possibleon the followingday. Also,the shipment of samples on a Fridayduringa surveyREQUIRES thepriorschedulingof receipton Saturdayateitherthe destinatiofnaciliti(eOsH or Wor theDuxbury facilityI.fsamplesareshippedto Duxbury, then arrangements must be made to send the samples to the destinationfacilitioens the next businessday.
SOP M3-F-4.0 Definesthelabelingrequirementsforthe spikingampoules. ne requirement isthateach ampoule willbe labeledindividuallwyith severalpiecesof information.T'he actualsizeof theampoules precludesallthisinformationfrom being recordeddirectlyon the ampoules, thereforethe informationmust be recorded separatelyand attached.To facilitate efficienatnd accuratelabelingand spiking,a differentapproach willbe initiated. The ampoules containingeach type of spikingsolution(polarand neutralcompounds) willbe storedand shipped in separatecontainers(i.e.a,mpoule storagecontaineror standardsstorage box). The resultofthisdiscussionisthatthisprocedurewillnotbe continuedduring subsequentsurveys.'Theuse of glovesduringcollectiona,nd theprohibitionof riiaterials containingpossiblecontaminationsufficientlryeduces thepossibilitoyf contamination.
