Santighian RECIPE DEVELOPMENT TO DATE ON FERRUX Ferrux 270 - We have a replacement recipe that will be instituted today with a modification of the Regular Ball Mill Dust. The aluminum content in the Ball Mill Dust we have been receiving from U.S.R. has been dwindling. What we need is to have a product that will stand the day-to-day batch formulations. In June there were 11 batches that had to be reworked. Don Marino mentioned1 that the silo situation should be sorted out by the end of the month. Don Marino stated that he has had very little follow up from the sales force regarding the use of EP 5499 Ferrux. The only one that he has had some feedback on is Wheeling Steel. The biggest problem at this account has been very poor spreadabi1ity. Don mentioned that if we want to sell Copperweld our Ferrux we will have to go in with a 7 or 8q/lb. product. The future of EP 5499 rests solely with the cost of raw materials. Bill Vandemark asked Don Marino to investigate which one of U.S.R.'s plant is down and why and how this will effect us. 531X Nothing as yet has been done. We still do not have the capability to run this material. However, Ferrux contribution has jumped from 15% to almost 30%. The future on the use of 531X rests on how smokeless the product is and what the customers are willing to pay for a "Cadillac" product. There is some availability problems. However, Don stated that Ashbury should have 200 tons of this product available in September. In the meantime we have been buying the Russian graphite. Gordon Campbell is currently studying the idea of moving the Ferrux installation from Cleveland to Mt. Braddock. However; Don stated that with some improvements in the Cleveland plant, we could have the facility stay here. MISCELLANEOUS Don stated that there have been some quality problems with Ferrux at INCO. He is checking this out. They are complaining of high lead and high zinc content. PROFAX - ASBESTOS FREE - CLEVELAND PLANT All Mark Ill's are now using EP 5465A and will start running the 1-pc next week. Will be running the 454 Sharon top to replace the EP 39828 & D and also the Seal-On rings. Arsen has been using about double the amount of clay to get good green strength which has been successful.
