It contains two interesting tidbits. First, the investigation is ongoing. But an October 2016 announcement from the IG said they referred referred an employee to the DOJ for violating the Clean Water Act and making false statements, that the DOJ declined to prosecute the employee, and that the IG was preparing a Report of Investigation, all of which suggests the investigation is closed. Second, the letter says there are no records indicating that the EPA took any administrative actions as a result of the investigation, which would include punishment for the employee. One additional interesting implication is that an investigation is still ongoing even though the incident happened two years ago as of this Saturday. I'm writing a story about this letter today, so if the EPA wants to provide a comment, I'll need it by 4 pm, but I'm really interested in getting more information about this response, primarily about the ongoing investigation.
