0. Tha Plant engineer has completed tha standard drawings for ladders, handrails, ate., so that future construction mill comply alth standards and revisions can be made to existing non-complying items.
We are in the process or line-marking all aisles and safety areas but have encountered a problem in that alnca tha specifications call for white or black or a combination for aisle marking. Black won't work with asphalt, white discolors quickly. Wa will ba painting on tha paint.
All portable ladders have baan inspected and have tha proper non-slip fast plus a b-foot length of tie-off rope firmly attached to tha top rung.
An inventory haa baan- taken af the dock boards, and wa ara in the process of obtaining pricea fai tha replacement tor all non-complying boards.
E. Egress has bash rsvlssjed with all supervisors, and a regular Inspection is made to insure that ns agVeeeee are blocked, locked, or not available for emergency use. At this point wa request that you clarify to us the actual make-up and color of thw Tfgna to ba used indicating tha various hazards, safety instructions, and exit instructions since there is soma doubt in my mind ea to whether or not wa naad the fancy, multi-colored enameled signs or good, clear, legible, economic plaatic signs.

as assistance is available, wa are in jeopardy if such an inspection ia made.
H. All cylinders,is., acetylene and oxygervara inapactad and ar* handled in accordance with the standards. Our L.P. gas system and tha method for servicing tanks and trucks has boon reviewed with all involved personnel and will ba reviewed aa a regular item at the monthly safety masting.
I. This plant does have available aye, race, and head protection equipment tor employee* and our interest has always been in bump ceps and safety glasses aa part of tha equipment. We are working with the Union committee at the present time informing them that tha usa of protection including respirators in areas where asbestos might be a problem until dust counts can ba mads, will be enforced as soon as tha respirators are delivered which should be within the next 10 days.
J. As far as practical, our sanitation facilities era acceptable in the various areas of the plant, and a a# have instituted a coverq/raceptacle syatam, but the demand for receptacle covers of this type has been ao great the suppliers have not been able to -ksefasp*..-*Thay era on order and will be used as soon as they ere available, _ *,,r* .

Two member#; oT" the Crle Lake Plant have qualified as Red Cross First Aid instructors, ahc( they ar* currently in the process of selecting an adequate number of employees on each shift from each department and train them as First Aid people so that wa will have complete coverage at ail times. I might add at this point that in order to impress the individual employees on the importance that I personal place on this activity, I will also attend the classes and quality as a Rad Cross first aider.

Tha sprinkler systems hava baan tasted, and in ordar to compiy aith the Factory Mutual requirement, aa *111 be requesting Funds to inspect and clean ail of the dry valve systems in tha plant at an early data.
Additional dry chemical extinguishers hava baan added to insure adequate coverage in high-risk areas such as saturators and atills department.
Iha Fire brigade consiats or "old-timers'* and has been extremely successful ovar tha years In coping elth the emergencies ahich might arise. It is evident that tha overall awareness of tha need Tor safe operation has baan put acroas by tha Fact .that Four years ago tha Firs Department visited this plant on a rire call onca a seek. In 1971 the Flra Department aaa called to tha plant thraa times.
M. Tha compressed-air system in tha plant is under con6tent Inspection and is in good condition ror the age of the system. Tha reducing-type valves for bloe-sFf nozzles ars hers end sill bo Installed.
N. Power and industrial trucks have baan inspected For the safety guards and are in good condition to comply with tha standards. On February 15 and 16 a complete operator training course For industrial truck drivers eill be held again to complate the continuous educational processes of maintaining safe operation of this equipment.
O. Equipment drives,-guard*, etc., have been checked end an example oF what is being done is covered.in the. attached copy oF the letter by me to Mr. FaneuF, dated January 6,'1$72.,
