The plant has operated 4400 days ( thru 12/31) without a disabling injury. We now have completed 12 consecutive years without a lost time accident. B. He has been unsuccessful in arranging a trial of the recommended equipment, however he was pessimistic from the start regarding the suitability of his equipment. We are contacting other equipment suppliers recommended to us by H. Luke. It is our understanding that H. Luke will investigate the German equipment under consideration. The four Cyastabs (Carbonate, Phosphite, Phthalate and Sulfate ) sent to Envirostrand were run successfully thru their equipment (4k lbs per hr ) and all tests run on the extrudate indicated a highly acceptable product. B. B. F. GOODRICH Western Electric has requested Goodrich make up 12000 lbs. of compound with Cyastab SLM for evaluation in Western's Balti more plant. The compound will be produced in Louisville on Jan. 16th. Goodrich needs an MSDS for Cyastab SLM before they can order the stabilizer needed. C. PRILLED PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE A lab batch of Cyastab 908 was prepared with a sample of prilled Phthalic Anhydride from Badische.. The Phthalic Anhydride was added to the litharge slurry directly, with out pre - dispersing it. The reaction appeared to go satis factorily . 1-000203 CYWl c. PRILLED PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE (continued) Sufficient material has been ordered for a plant trial. if successful, this would result in an energy savings from eliminating the need for pre - dispersing the Phthalic Anhydride. It might also provide a margin of safety against the formation of black specks in the finished product. D. Based on a request from sales we are upgrading costs and operating techniques for producing Normal Lead Stearate. Both the normal and dibasic lead stearates have been pro cessed thru the cowles unit in the past. GENERAL A. The lead price continued to fluctuate during the month moving from 25$ down to 23$, up to 24$ and finally to 26$ effective 12/30. The LME at 20$ will support a domestic price of 24 - 25$ however this prolonged cold spell has created a surge in battery purchases so the lead suppliers have forced the increase. B, PERSONNEL Salary 12 (including 5 working non- exempt supervisors) . Hourly 14 The plant was idled 12/23 and 12/26 in observance of the Christmas Holiday and will shut down on 1/2/84. C. The IBM Microcomputer has been received and set - up. We are now in the process of learning its operation. We are anxious to inventory part or all the Chemical Group finished goods inventory currently held at the Chicago D.C and have requested an I.E. study to assure all details are covered. We do have some available space. Our neighboring plant, Armstrong Containers has been con tacted to see if they could lease warehouse space to us. F. We continued to run tight with shipments in air pallets and taicon bags but the new system of contacting our cust omers from this location has helped ease this problem.
